Hello there, I'm thinking of buying Thyme for 3 Joomla-websites I'm creating for a client, and I've been trying to figure Thyme out all evening, but I don't get it. I've been searching the internet and this forum for answers, but I only find short and vague things which are hard to understand for a newbie, so I hope you can help me out. I've also followed the Extrosoft joomla studio documentation, but I still don't understand. I'll try to explain what it is I don't get:

1. first of all: what exactly is the difference between using Joomla Studio and wrapping Thyme into Joomla (in other words: working without Joomla studio)?

2. should you operate from the seperate Thyme-application (www/thyme) or from the installed Joomla component (via Components > Thyme > Admin in Joomla Administrator). Where should you create calendars, etc.

3. in the thyme-joomla studio-application (www/thyme), what is the difference between 'components' and 'pages', and how do they work together?

4. I've somehow managed to make a module which I installed in Joomla, but I don't understand
4a. how I can add events to this calendar
4b. how I can get these events to link to a content item in Joomla/ a full calender page
such as is created in the example in the joomla studio documentation
4c. how I can make this module only show when you click on a menu-item

I really hope you understand what I mean and can help me out a little here. I really like what Thyme can do, if only I could understand how it works!!!

Hi,

1) The difference between wrapping Thyme and using Joomla studio is really functionality and look. Using the wrapper you can get all of Thyme's funcionalilty, using Joomla studio you can not. When you use Joomla studio, you get read-only access to event info. The look also differs. You can see this on the demos here. "Event List" and "Month View" menu items use Joomla Studio, "Wrapped" is Thyme wrapped.

2) It does not matter at all. Which ever you want to do. The end result is the same no matter how you get there.

3) Components in Joomla Studio is the generic term for Thyme .. parts / thingies .. stuff .. A calendar view, a date picker, anything really. For a component to be displayed, it must be embedded in a page. You can put multiple components in one page. You can then turn the page into a Joomla module. To get anything to display in Joomla, it must be in a page.

4)

a: You can't.

b: Create a month view component in Joomla Studio. This should then be embedded in a page. Let's say the page is called 'month.php'. In the General section under Project, you should set the default page to the page you created, 'month.php'. Then, the default page displayed is 'month.php'.

c: Don't create a module from the page. Create a new menu item in Joomla called .. calendar. This can be done from Joomla's administration section. Click on Menu, then mainmenu. Then click on the 'New' icon. The next page should allow you to select 'Component'. Select that and click Next. You should be able to select the Thyme component on the next page. Clicking on the menu item will bring up the Thyme component with the default page (month.php) you set in the previous step.

Let me know if this is not clear or if you have any other questions.
