Is there a way to dictate that a user may only see certain categories on a given calendar?
That is, user X would be allowed to see events in category A in calendar 1.

This doesn't seem to be a standard feature. Is there a way to customize Thyme to support this?

Follow-up question woudl be whether this can be done for a group.

You're correct in that Thyme doesn't have that feature. It could certainly be customized in, though.

Depending on the exact configuration, you might be able to achieve this through separate calendars & views: the protected categories on calendars by themselves and then limiting access to those calendars and then a view that displays all calendars (which should automatically exclude the calendars for which the user doesn't have access). More information on views can be found here

A caveat is that the default configuration doesn't display category styling on views. This requires some customization. You can color the events by calendar, though, so if you did have every category on its own calendar, you could mimic the category styling to a degree.

Another caveat is that each event can only be on one calendar at a time - so you couldn't mimic the multiple-categories feature.

Regarding groups, it's a similar answer. You can restrict access to calendars, but not to categories.

Hope this helps. Let us know if you need more information.
