Hi,

Just recently I started translating the language files into Japanese and Czech. As I have been using those two laguagese on a common Joomla-based site, I went for UTF-8 encoding. Everything looks good but the characters in the dropdown menus, which come out corrupted.

The problem covers the both languages, so that it seems the doble-byte encoding is falsely interpreted as single-byte. But as I am saying, it concerns only the items in the dropdown menus, not the text in the main frames.

Thanks in advance for any hint!

Hi Gaijin,

Are you using the actual chars or the HTML equivalent of the chars? For instance, some people incorrectly use 'Ä' in the translation file rather than the actual charactor 'Ä'. It should be the actual char and not the HTML entity. Are you doing this?

Hi ian,

Think the characters I am using are correct. I installed SuperEdi and set it hard for UTF-8 encoding before editing the language files for as I know that pseudo-UTF encoding conversion (provided by MS FrontPage, e.g.) is the right way to the hell.

I would like to conjugate Thyme with my joomlized site, though, I am afraid the encoding problem is more general as the minicals and dropdown menus of practically all of the Joomla calendar suppliers have exactly the same problem when one diverts from the standard ISO way...

Hi Gaijin,

I've looked into this at length and corrected the problem in the next version of Thyme. Could I get you to try 1.3 beta? I don't think it has this problem. Please e-mail me at ian at extrosoft and I'll point you to the download. If you don't want to try a beta, I understand.
